2017 Winter Blues Jazz Festival

I am excited to share that I have been invited back for this year's 3rd annual Winter Blues Jazz Festival in Williamsburg, VA!!!

If you read my last blog post "Name Me" you will know that last years festival was my debut performance in a jazz festival, and it was also where "Modern Muse" was announced as the official name change of my musical persona and jazz band!

This year I will be performing at The Fat Canary for one of two jazz brunches they will be offering this year, and I will be playing with some spectacular players as well.

Let's start with the restaurant!

The Fat Canary is located right in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg and is one of the most highly praised and award winning restaurants in the Hampton Roads area. They are only open for brunch ONCE a year, and that is during this festival, so this is your one and only chance in 2017 to try a unique and custom-made brunch menu at this exceptional Virginia favorite!

I am also pleased to announce the extraordinary talent I will have with me!
This years quartet will feature Roy George (piano), JR Erb (bass), and Rich Mossman (drums).

Roy and I have been playing together since 2014. He is an original member of "Licita" (the name of my jazz band before Modern Muse), which debuted with a live recording of Black Coffee at Soul Haven Studios. Since that time he and I have played together as a duo all over Hampton Roads. He is my "musical mind reader" and our comfort together on stage is palpable. He is also my writing partner, and I am very excited to debut some original songs we have worked on together!

JR and I met in early 2016 but have played together this year quite a bit! My performance at the 2016 WBJF resulted in a regular gig at Waypoint Grill in Williamsburg VA. I have been back there once a month with a trio for a special jazz brunch, and JR has been my bass player there since day one. He is one of those musicians that immediately makes you feel at ease. His solos are thoughtful and interesting, and his bass lines are steady. JR will actually be relocating later in 2017, so I am very grateful to have this opportunity to play with him.

You may recognize Rich as the drummer for Jacob Vanko (a powerhouse musician in the area- seriously, LOOK HIM UP), but I have had the pleasure of playing with Rich a handful of times this past year. It is a delight every gig I have with him, and his musicality brings out the best in me and every musician he plays with. I LOVE to experiment and shake up the typical style of the good old fashion standards, and Rich can jump puddles with me from funk to swing to doo-wop effortlessly. His passion and energy are contagious, and he'll have you moving in your seat from the first shuffle to the last hit.

FRIENDS- Get your tickets today. Seriously. Every single jazz brunch SOLD OUT last year, and this year is well on its way to doing so as well! You can buy tickets for each individual event or they have EXCELLENT deals that cover the entire weekend of musical offerings!!! Buy your tickets and get more details at the Winter Blues Jazz Festival website.

I am looking forward to seeing you!
